News Topical, Digital Desk : US President Donald Trump's trade advisor Peter Navarro has launched a scathing attack on the growing trade relations between India and Russia.

He described Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit as "shameful".

Navarro says that India should stand with America instead of Russia and China. This statement has come at a time when America's displeasure is increasing over the oil trade between India and Russia.

Navarro accused India of buying Russian oil and said that this is providing financial support to Putin's war against Ukraine. His statement has brought new bitterness in India-US relations.

Why is America angry about buying oil from Russia?

In the last few years, India has started buying cheap oil from Russia. Navarro claims that India is buying Russian oil at cheap prices, refining it and selling it at a profit, thereby indirectly benefiting Russia.

He even called India the "Kremlin's laundromat", a country that siphons off money for Russia.

India says it is buying Russian oil to keep energy prices low in its country and markets stable.

India has called the US move "unfair" as it is not alone in buying oil from Russia, China too is doing so but only India is facing secondary tariffs from Trump.

The condition of America is like a disgruntled cat scratching the pole

Navarro mocked India as the "King of Tariffs" and claimed that it imposes the highest tariffs among major economies.

He cited India's purchase of Russian oil as the reason for the 50% tariff. Apart from this, he also targeted the social structure of India and said that "Brahmins are making profits from cheap Russian oil, while common Indians are not getting any benefit from it."
