News Topical, Digital Desk : Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed direct talks with Ukraine to end the war. He has also suggested the Turkish city of Istanbul for the talks. US President Donald Trump has welcomed this proposal and called it a great day for Russia and Ukraine.

 

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has described Putin's proposal as positive but has expressed the need for it to begin with a ceasefire. He has said that this ceasefire should be complete and temporary. Zelensky said that he himself will be present in Istanbul for talks with Putin.

 

Talks may take place on May 15

Putin has said that this dialogue can take place on May 15. This dialogue can begin without any preconditions. Putin said that talks were also held between the two countries in 2022 but due to some misunderstandings, the said talks could not proceed further. French President Emmanuel Macron has said that talks can be the first step towards establishing peace in Ukraine but it is not enough.

 

Many leaders welcomed Putin's proposal

The war in Ukraine should stop immediately. This will create an atmosphere for peace talks. Other European leaders have also asked Putin to be ready for a ceasefire. Earlier, the leaders of France, Britain, Germany and Poland, who reached Kiev on Saturday, had demanded an immediate ceasefire from Russia.
