News Topical, Digital Desk : Vehicles without high security number plates (HSRP) will not be subject to pollution testing from April 15. This number plate is mandatory, yet 20 million vehicles across the state lack HSRP.
Vehicle owners will be fined ten thousand rupees for failing to get a pollution check done, and five thousand rupees for not having an HSRP, totaling a total of fifteen thousand rupees. In metropolitan areas, this action will be taken by the traffic department, transport department, and police, while in other districts, the transport department and police will take action.
HSRP is being fitted to all vehicles registered in the state from April 1, 2019. Prior to this, it was made mandatory to fit high security number plates on over three crore registered vehicles. Several campaigns were launched to encourage people to get number plates installed, and even after this, challans were issued for vehicles found without HSRP, special number plates have not yet been fitted to nearly two crore vehicles.
Most two-wheelers in rural areas do not have this number plate. Additional Transport Commissioner (Revenue), Rajendra Vishwakarma, said the Transport Department, through the National Informatics Center (NIC), has implemented a technical system in the PUCC (Pollution Testing) portal so that, from April 15th, the portal will only issue a certificate if the vehicle is fitted with HSRP.
What is HSRP
This plate is made of aluminum and features an Ashoka Chakra hologram for security and a 10-digit PIN (laser code). It also contains complete vehicle information, such as the engine number and chassis number.
OTP for verification is coming on the registered mobile number
In February, a change was made to vehicle pollution testing. An OTP (one-time password) is now being sent to the same mobile number registered when the vehicle was purchased. If the vehicle owner has changed or lost the registered mobile number, the new number must be updated, and only then will pollution testing be possible.
