News Topical, Digital Desk : The recent war with Iran and the subsequent 14-day ceasefire have significantly impacted the global balance of power. According to international security experts, the conflict has weakened the US position on several fronts in 21st-century superpower competition, while indirectly benefiting China and Russia.

First, American influence in the Middle East has suffered a setback. The credibility of the United States, which has long served as the region's security guarantor, is being questioned. Gulf states—such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar—may now seek alternative security and economic partners, potentially strengthening the regional influence of China and Russia.

America lost focus

China has already played a mediating role in restoring relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran, while Russia maintains influence in the region through its ties with Syria and Iran.

Second, this war has shifted America's strategic focus. The Trump administration's national security strategy focused on the Asia-Pacific and the Western Hemisphere, but the conflict with Iran has diverted resources and attention back to the Middle East. This has not only impacted other priorities but also created divisions with NATO allies, which China and Russia could exploit.

Russia got the benefit of revenue

Third, the economic impact was relatively more damaging to the United States. The blockage of the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20 percent of global oil supplies pass, led to a surge in energy prices.

This provided Russia with additional revenue from its energy exports, while fuel inflation and supply constraints increased pressure in the US. China, which has diversified its energy sources and strengthened domestic storage, appeared relatively well-positioned to weather the shock.

Damage to the image of leadership

Fourth, and most importantly, America's global leadership image has been damaged. The Trump administration's aggressive policies and contradictory rhetoric during the war have distanced it from its role as a credible mediator. In contrast, China, by encouraging a ceasefire, has sought to establish itself as an emerging global mediator.
