News Topical, Digital Desk : Iran has claimed that a phone call made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to US Vice President JD Vance during talks has hindered a major breakthrough in resolving the ongoing standoff between Iran and the US.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi made the accusation after Vance left Islamabad without a deal after more than 21 hours of talks in the Pakistani capital.

'Netanyahu's phone call changed the discussion'

" Netanyahu's phone call to Vance during the meeting shifted the focus of the discussion from US-Iran talks to Israeli interests. The US sought to achieve at the negotiating table what it had been unable to achieve through war," Araghchi wrote.

'Vance shouldn't have held the press conference'

He said Iran had participated in the talks hosted by Pakistan in good faith, adding that Vance's press conference before leaving was unnecessary. He said Iran was "committed and prepared to defend its nation's interests and sovereignty."

Ceasefire is about to end

Washington, however, has neither confirmed nor denied any talks with Netanyahu. The crisis comes at a critical juncture, with a two-week ceasefire agreed upon earlier this month now under renewed pressure and just days away from expiring.
