News Topical, Digital Desk : Former Congress President and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, will arrive in Indore on Saturday to inquire about the families affected by contaminated drinking water, which has claimed 24 lives and sickened over 3,300 others. He will also visit the homes of those who died in the affected Bhagirathpura area to meet their relatives.
The Congress party provided the administration with a list of four homes to meet with the affected families, but as of Friday evening, there was uncertainty about whether they would be able to reach all of them. Security agencies are on high alert due to the narrow streets of Bhagiratha Pura.
The CRPF and other agencies have objected to entering due to security concerns. There isn't enough space to quickly move the convoy out in case of an emergency. However, Congress leaders say that if necessary, Rahul Gandhi will even walk to the victims' homes.
Meanwhile, the Congress party has prepared for a statewide protest regarding the Bhagirathapura incident. Along with Rahul Gandhi's visit to Indore, the Congress party will observe a fast in all districts of Madhya Pradesh on January 17th.
According to the scheduled programme, Rahul Gandhi will reach Indore by a special plane at 11 am on Saturday and after meeting the Congress leaders at the airport, he will reach Bhagirathpura Basti at 12.45 pm after inquiring about the condition of the sick people admitted in a private hospital in the city at 11:45 am.
After spending an hour meeting with the affected people, he will return at 1:45 p.m. It is reported that Rahul has expressed a special desire to meet the family of six-month-old Aavyan.
Sumitra Mahajan said – when we were in the opposition, we too would have protested.
On Friday, a day before Rahul Gandhi's visit, Congress state president Jitu Patwari visited the Indore residence of former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan. Patwari said he had come to seek her guidance. During the visit, Mahajan remarked that when her party was in the opposition, she too used to protest.
Protests are necessary, but so is finding solutions. He suggested that experts from institutions like IIT, IIM, and SGSIT could be consulted to address the contaminated water problem.
