News Topical, Digital Desk : Even after 20 people died from contaminated drinking water in Bhagirathpura, Indore, the municipal corporation's system appears to be failing. The testing, which was touted as a crucial step towards improvement on Wednesday, exposed the corporation's negligence.

As soon as chlorinated water was released to test the water distribution line, the pipeline burst. The water, gushing with high pressure, entered homes and shops. As the situation worsened, the supply had to be shut off immediately.

Residents say the corporation claimed to have repaired the pipeline a few days ago after a large number of people fell ill with vomiting and diarrhea. At the site where the pipeline burst on Wednesday, a pit was dug, but the pit was filled in without properly connecting the pipeline.

This negligence came to light when the water was released under pressure on Wednesday. Meanwhile, another serious issue has emerged regarding the contaminated drinking water. The danger of coliform bacteria found in the contaminated drinking water in Bhagiratha Pura is not limited to this area.

In February last year, the presence of the same bacteria was detected in Narmada water supplied to the city's posh Shalimar township, which caused more than 100 people to fall ill.

After testing revealed bacteria, the residents' association had bleaching powder added to the water tanks . It's clear that the Municipal Corporation is unable to provide clean drinking water in many areas of the city. Around 1,000 families live in Shalimar Township.

Fear prevails in Bhagirathpura area, 24 new patients found

Meanwhile, 24 new cases of vomiting and diarrhea were reported in the Bhagirathpura area on Wednesday. Most patients were sent home after first aid, but fear remains. The effects of contaminated water were felt even in Krishnabagh Colony. Fourteen-month-old twin girls, Riddhi and Siddhi, had to be hospitalized after complaining of vomiting and diarrhea. Their father, Chandan Singh Pawar, reported that the entire area is receiving contaminated water.

We will have to fight for clean water ourselves.

Leader of the Opposition Umang Singhar visited various areas of the city on Wednesday to test the water being supplied. Complaints of contaminated drainage water surfaced in several areas. Umang Singhar smelled and tasted the water. He said that people must fight for clean water themselves; relying solely on politicians will not achieve anything.
