News Topical, Digital Desk : A Potek Philippe watch, the most expensive ever sold at auction in 2016, has once again set a record for the highest price ever sold. Auction company Philips said the wristwatch sold for an even higher price this weekend.
According to the information, the watch sold for 14,190,000 Swiss francs ($17.6 million), which is more than the 11 million francs, or $11 million at the time, that it fetched nine years earlier.
This clock was made 82 years ago.
In fact, the AFP news agency reports that this watch was made in 1943 and is called the Pocket Philip Perpetual Calendar Reference 1518. A total of 280 watches of this model were made, but only four are made of stainless steel. The rest are made of gold.
It is being claimed that the watch made of steel is in greater demand than other watches made of gold. This is why this watch sold for the highest and record price in the world during the auction. It is being said that the watch auctioned this Sunday is the first of the four watches made of steel.
The price of the watch broke records.
The world record price for this wristwatch, set in 2016, was broken in 2017 by Hollywood star Paul Newman's Rolex Daytona, which sold for $17.8 million. It was later surpassed in 2019 by a Pocket Philip Grandmaster Chime, which sold for $31 million.
Meanwhile, auctioneers said on Sunday that the sale of the Steelness Steel 1518 this weekend reaffirmed its status as one of the most historically significant wristwatches ever made. The auction reportedly took just nine minutes, with five bidders involved, before the watch finally sold to a telephone bidder.
