News Topical, Digital Desk : Amidst the tension between India and Pakistan, IMF had announced to give loan to Pakistan. But IMF had approved 1 billion dollars for Pakistan. India had objected to this decision of IMF and said that it should reconsider it once. International Monetary Fund (IMF) has defended its bailout package.

 

The IMF has said that Pakistan has followed all the rules for getting the loan. This relief package was given at a time when India took action against Pakistan-based terrorism under Operation Sindoor. India had appealed to the IMF not to give loan to Pakistan, because Pakistan can use this money to promote terrorism.

 

IMF defends itself

The IMF and Pakistan signed a $7 billion agreement under the EFF last year. Defending the loan, IMF Communications Department Director Julie Kozak said, "Our board found that Pakistan has met all the targets. It has made progress on some reforms and that is why the board went ahead and approved the program."

 

‘Periodic review’

He specifically looks at whether the conditions under the program have been met, and whether any policy changes are needed to bring the program back on track. Julie Kozak further said - Pakistan has fulfilled all the conditions. 

 

'Loans given to Pakistan are terror funding'

Last week, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had said that aid to Pakistan was indirectly terror funding and had cautioned international agencies, including the IMF.
