News Topical, Digital Desk : The central government has approved an additional assistance of Rs 25 crore for houses damaged by Pakistani shelling in the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir. This decision was taken after the announcement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which it was said that an additional assistance of Rs 2 lakh will be given for houses completely damaged by Pakistani shelling and Rs 1 lakh for partially damaged houses.

Home Ministry took immediate action 

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement, Union Home Minister Amit Shah immediately made an additional provision of Rs 25 crore from the Home Ministry so that the affected families can get quick assistance. This assistance amount will be used for 2,060 houses in the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir, which were completely or partially damaged by Pakistani shelling.

Help in border areas of Punjab too

Along with this, the Home Ministry also clarified that the same amount of relief will be given to the people affected by Pakistan's shelling in the border areas of Punjab. This step has been taken in view of the damage caused by cross-border shelling in both the states.

Amit Shah's visit to Poonch, compassionate appointment

Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the border district of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir on 29-30 May. During this, he met the families of those killed in Pakistan's shelling and also handed over appointment letters to them on compassionate grounds. 

Religious places and commercial properties were also damaged

Following Operation Sindoor, several incidents of shelling were reported in the border districts of Jammu and Kashmir which not only affected residential areas but also caused heavy damage to schools, religious places (Gurudwaras, Temples, Mosques) and commercial properties, affecting hundreds of families.

3.25 lakh people evacuated from border districts

The administration took proactive steps to anticipate potential events and ensure effective response. A total of 3.25 lakh people were evacuated from the border districts, out of which about 15,000 people were accommodated in about 397 shelter homes/accommodation centres equipped with facilities like food, water, health care, electricity etc.

62 ambulances were deployed in Poonch to treat the patients

A total of 394 ambulances were deployed in all border districts to ferry patients to hospitals for treatment, of which 62 ambulances were deployed in Poonch district alone. A total of 2818 civil defence volunteers were also deployed for services related to health, fire and emergency services, livestock, essential supplies, etc.
