During the shooting of the film Mother India, actor Sunil Dutt saved Nargis's life during a fire on the set. After that, the two fell in love. Sunil's daughter Priya Dutt shared this story in an interview, “I even asked your father about saving your mother from the fire, and then you both fell in love. He said, 'Absolutely not.' If anyone else had been in that situation, they would have saved him too.”
He said that Priya described Sunil and Nargis's love. He fell in love with Mama because he saw compassion in her. He loved the person she was. She was a big star at the time. My father's career was just beginning to flourish. She (Nargis) was very down-to-earth.
One day, she asked her father why he was so sad. He replied, "My sister is sick. I don't know which doctor to take her to." Without telling him, she took her sister to the doctor. He was impressed by her behavior and fell in love with her. Priya admitted to having some attraction even when she was saving him from the fire.
Sunil played the role of Nargis's son
