News Topical, Digital Desk : Maximum temperatures were above normal in many parts of India on Wednesday. Heat wave to severe heat wave conditions prevailed in some areas of Saurashtra and Kutch regions of Gujarat and Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. Meanwhile, most places in Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh recorded maximum temperatures significantly above normal (5.1 degrees Celsius or more).

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), maximum temperatures were also markedly above normal in western and eastern Rajasthan, many places in Punjab, eastern and western Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, eastern and western Madhya Pradesh, Konkan and Goa, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh.

In its monthly forecast released on February 28, the IMD had said that above normal heat waves are likely to occur in most parts of the country between March and May.

Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar experienced a severe heat wave, with maximum temperatures 7.2 degrees Celsius and 6.4 degrees Celsius above normal, respectively, on Wednesday. Similar conditions will persist in parts of Gujarat until March 13.

The IMD said that heat wave to severe heat wave conditions are likely at many places over Saurashtra and Kutch on March 12 and heat wave conditions are likely at isolated places over Gujarat region on March 12-13.

Maximum temperatures were also recorded significantly above normal at some isolated places in Assam, Meghalaya, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad.
