New Delhi: There is anger in the whole country over the rape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Protests are being held in many parts of the country since this horrific incident with the 31-year-old doctor. At the same time, after this incident which shames humanity, the name of the former principal of the institute, Sandeep Ghosh, is in the headlines.

The court raised questions on this step of Mamta government

The Supreme Court and the Calcutta High Court have also questioned the action taken against Sandeep Ghosh after the body of a female doctor was found in the seminar hall of a government hospital. The courts have also questioned the move of the Mamata government in which Sandeep Ghosh was made the principal of another medical college just hours after his resignation from the post of head of RG Kar Medical College.

Who is Sandip Ghosh?

Sandip Ghose, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, completed his schooling from Bongaon High School near Kolkata, after which he cleared the Joint Entrance Examination for admission to medical and engineering courses and studied at RG Kar Medical College.

Dr Ghosh completed MBBS in 1994 and became an orthopedic surgeon. Before becoming the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Ghosh served as the vice principal at Calcutta National Medical College.

Big allegations of corruption

About two years after taking over as principal, serious allegations of corruption were leveled against Ghosh. In fact, Akhtar Ali, former deputy superintendent of RG Kar Medical College, filed a complaint against Ghosh with the State Vigilance Commission, in which serious allegations were made against him.

The complaint levelled several allegations against Dr Ghosh and others, including wastage of government money, evading financial rules, practicing nepotism in selecting vendors and taking bribes from them, irregularities in the recruitment of contractual employees.

He used to take money to pass the students

Akhtar has also accused Sandeep Ghosh of 'harming' many students. He said that he used to make students fail and take money from them to make them pass.

Akhtar said that he had seen all these 'irregularities' during his tenure as Deputy Superintendent. He had also informed the officers about this. Ali says that I kept making written complaints against Sandeep, but nothing happened.

He resigned on August 12

At the same time, many allegations have been made against Ghosh since the incident of rape and murder in RG Kar came to light. All the doctors and students also demanded the removal of Sandeep Ghosh. Under the pressure of the movement, Sandeep resigned on 12 August last.

He went to the health department and submitted his resignation. Within hours, the state health department appointed Sandip as the principal of another government hospital in Kolkata.

A movement started demanding his removal from there. Meanwhile, the Calcutta High Court ordered Sandeep to go on 'long leave'. Since then Sandeep was on leave and the CBI is continuously questioning him.
