New Delhi. The appointment of a foreign affairs secretary by the Kerala government and the comments made by West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on the internal situation of Bangladesh have not gone down well with the Ministry of External Affairs.

The Ministry of External Affairs considers this a violation of the powers given to the Central Government in matters related to foreign affairs under the Constitution. The spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs has asked both these states to follow the constitutional territorial rights.

India has termed the ongoing student movement in Bangladesh as an internal situation but CM Banerjee has said that if the situation worsens and the people come to West Bengal to take refuge, then she will consider it. Bangladesh has written a strong letter to the Indian Foreign Ministry expressing its objection in this regard.

The Kerala government has appointed a Secretary

It is said that the Bangladesh government has said that Mamata's statement is provocative and an interference in their internal affairs. The Bangladesh government understands that when the situation is getting normal, such a statement by the Chief Minister of West Bengal can worsen the situation. The Kerala government has recently appointed a secretary for cooperation in foreign affairs.

Kerala government said this

The Kerala government says that since a large population of Kerala lives abroad, this step has been taken to coordinate with them. When asked about this, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "It is clearly written in number 10 of the Central List-1 of the 7th Schedule of the Indian Constitution that foreign affairs or any matter related to it which is related to other countries comes completely under the authority of the Central Government. It is not included in the Concurrent List and is not a matter of the states. State governments should not interfere in this matter where they have no constitutional right.''

Jaiswal also informed that the Foreign Ministry has received objection from the Bangladesh government on the remarks of West Bengal CM Banerjee. Here too, he referred to the relevant provisions of the Constitution and asked the state government not to interfere in matters related to foreign affairs.
