In fact, the New Delhi District Consumer Disputes Redressal was hearing a complaint filed by a woman named Pinky, in which it was alleged that on January 2 this year, when she was travelling from Baku to New Delhi, she was given an unclean, dirty and stained seat.

What did the airline say on the woman's claim?

Pinky also alleged that when she complained about this, it was dismissed and taken insensitively. Refuting the woman's claim, the airlines said that it took cognizance of Pinky's problem and gave her a separate seat. After this, she traveled on her own and completed her journey till New Delhi.

Forum held airlines guilty

Taking into consideration the evidence presented, the forum said in its order dated July 9, which was made available recently, "We hold that the opposite party (IndiGo) is guilty of deficiency in service." The forum further said, “So far as the inconvenience, pain and mental agony caused to her is concerned, we hold that she should be compensated. We direct the opposite party to pay compensation of Rs 1.5 lakh to her for mental agony, physical suffering and harassment.”

Along with this, it was also directed to pay Rs 25,000 as litigation expenses. In its order, the forum said that the airlines failed to produce the Situation Data Display (SDD) report, which is a part of its internal operational records as per standard aviation protocol.
