The actress we are talking about is Mayuri, who was also credited as Shalini in Tamil films. Born in 1983, Mayuri was studying in class 8 when director Keyar offered her the film 'Kumbakonam Gopalu'. The film was released in 1998 and Mayuri played the role of a nurse in it.
Her performance in the film was well received and in the same year she was offered a big Malayalam film titled 'Summer in Bethlehem', her character's name in the film was Gayatri. Tamil superstar Mohanlal also did a cameo in this film.
In 2004, Mayuri's pairing with Dhanush was a hit
Mayuri, who started with Tamil films, also did many films in Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu languages in her career. After Summer in Betham, she did many Malayalam films like Akash Ganga, Bharya Veettil Paramasukham, Chandamama, Prem Pujari, Arayannagalude Veedu.
She worked with Dhanush in the Tamil film 'Pudhukottayilirundhu Saravanan' released in 2004. Mayuri's last film 'Kana Kanden' was released in 2005, just a month before her death, but the film for which the South audience remembers her is the Kannada film 'Sarvobhuma', in which she played the role of Basanti.
Mayuri committed suicide at the age of 22
16 June 2005 was a dark night for Mayuri's fans when they got the news of the actress' death. According to reports, the actress took a big step like suicide at the young age of 22. While dying, Mayuri left a note on which it was written 'I have lost faith in life'.
However, the mystery of why the actress took such a big step as suicide despite a successful career in South cinema is not solved even after 20 years. After Mayuri's death, her last film 'Akash Ganga 2' was released in 2019, in which old footage was used.
