In the viral video, it can be seen that some villagers are brutally beating a young man thinking him to be a thief.
In the viral video, the young man is seen begging for mercy, but the crowd kept beating him badly. After this video surfaced, there was a stir in the police-administration.
Police immediately took cognizance of the matter
As soon as the information about the incident was received, Muzaffarnagar police took cognizance of the viral video and took the matter very seriously. SSP Sanjay Kumar Verma said that a thorough investigation of the video has been done and after its confirmation, a named case has been registered against some people.
It has also been clarified by the police that the youth who was beaten was not a criminal related to this incident, he was targeted merely because of a rumour that he was a thief.
Police made this appeal to the public
Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Verma has appealed to the general public not to pay attention to any rumours and not to take the law into their own hands. He said that if anyone sees any suspicious person, they should immediately inform the police. He said in a strict tone that beating any innocent person is a serious crime and strict action will be taken against those who do this.
SSP Sanjay Kumar Verma says that targeting any innocent person on the basis of rumours will not be tolerated in the district. Those who are guilty in the video are being identified and action is being taken. The public is appealed not to believe in any rumours and if they see any suspicious person, inform the police immediately.
