After Gujarat, now heavy rains have affected life in Rajasthan and Uttarakhand. The rains since Tuesday night have created flood-like conditions in Jodhpur and Udaipur in Rajasthan. Five trains were cancelled on the Jodhpur-Jaisalmer route due to soil being washed away under the track, while the route of two trains was changed.
Yellow alert issued for many districts
Four gates of Swaroop Sagar were opened after five hours of heavy rain in Udaipur on Wednesday. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert, predicting thunderstorms and lightning along with heavy rains at isolated places in Banswara, Dungarpur, Jalore, Jhalawar, Jodhpur, Pali, Phalodi, Sanchore, Sirohi and Udaipur in the next 24 hours.
Jodhpur Divisional Railway Manager Pankaj Kumar Singh said that the team has reached the place where the soil was flowing from the track and has started work. Soon the traffic will be started on this route.
Landslide again on Varunavat mountain
In Uttarakhand, landslides started again from Varunavat mountain in Gofiyara area amidst three hours of continuous heavy rain in Uttarkashi district headquarters and surrounding areas since Tuesday evening. Landslides occurred five times in half an hour. After this, landslides continued to occur intermittently throughout the night. This has created panic in Bhatwadi Road and Gofiyara residential area.
Rainfall is a disaster even in the mountains
50 families of the area have been shifted to safer places. The Badrinath highway in Chamoli was blocked for about four hours on Wednesday morning due to debris. The Yamunotri highway in Uttarkashi was blocked for five hours and the Gangotri highway for about eight hours. Meanwhile, a JCB driver who was removing debris from the road in Gairsain, Chamoli, died after being hit by a stone falling from the hill.
