New Delhi: President Draupadi Murmu and Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal have stressed the need to change the "date after date" culture in courts. The President said efforts need to be made to change the "culture of adjournments" in courts to ensure speedy justice.
At the same time, Meghwal called for collective efforts to break the common notion of 'date after date' in the judicial system so that the trust of citizens in the judiciary can be strengthened. Addressing the closing ceremony of the two-day national conference of district judiciary at Bharat Mandapam, the President said that pending cases in the courts is a big challenge for 'all of us'.
The culture of adjournments has to be changed: President
He said that therefore every effort needs to be made to change the culture of adjournments in the courts. Protection of justice is the responsibility of all the judges of the country. Crimes against women and children are a matter of serious concern.
He said that the stress level of common people increases in the court environment. He suggested to study this subject. He also expressed happiness over the increase in the number of women judicial officers. The President reiterated that people consider every judge of the country as God, therefore it is the moral duty of every judge and judicial officer to respect religion, truth and justice.
'Courts decide the image of the judiciary'
He said that district level courts determine the image of the judiciary in the minds of crores of citizens. Therefore, providing justice to the people with sensitivity and promptness and at low cost through district courts is the basis of the success of the judiciary. Expressing concern over long pending cases, he stressed on organizing programs like special Lok Adalat.
At the event, Law Minister Meghwal also proposed to conduct an in-depth analysis of 'long pending cases'. He said that analysis of pending cases and clubbing similar cases together can help reduce the number of pending cases in courts, and also praised some high courts for implementing such a system. His ministry has set the goal of justice for all. This proposed program proposes to provide affordable, speedy and technology-based citizen-centric justice to the people at their doorstep.
President released the flag and emblem of the Supreme Court
He also called for creating such an environment in which even the last person standing in the queue feels that he is getting justice. Such efforts will further strengthen people's faith in the justice system. In the program, President Murmu also released the flag and logo of the Supreme Court on completion of 75 years of its establishment.
