News Topical, Digital Desk : Arjun Rampal is an actor who plays both positive and negative characters very well. But if we look at his choice of films these days, he is playing more negative characters and the audience is also liking such roles. The actor has spoken openly to Jagran New Media about why Rampal is being drawn towards negative characters. He also talked about his upcoming films, his characters and his film Punjab 95 which is on hold for release.
- For some time now, you have been liking negative roles more?
I feel that he is not attracted to me, but I am attracted to him. Yes, enough is enough, but
The thing is that if you get good roles then it becomes difficult to say no to them. But yes, before playing any role, one has to think a lot. One has to work on it. 'Rana Naidu' was a very different show. Not all the characters in the show are black and white. Its hero is also grey. I thought that Rauf's character would also be complex like the other characters. There, as an artist, one gets a lot of freedom, so it was fun doing it.
- Now action in films has become quite violent. Do you think that actors also have a responsibility towards this?
If you look at the kind of video games children play today, we will look very less in comparison to them. The responsibility is not only of the actors, but of everyone. We make what the story demands, so that it looks real. If we see the kind of news that is coming in the world right now, I am not at all in favour of promoting violence, but when people come to watch a film, they understand that it is an imaginary world. It is only for entertainment. There is no need to take it home. If there is a good message or some other good thing in the film, then you must take it with you. But there is no need to take everything too seriously.
- You have been in the industry for 25 years. Cinema has changed a lot in these 25 years. Now questions are being raised on the existence of cinema halls...
It is being said that if the theatres are closed then nothing like that will happen. Films and OTT are different mediums of the same industry. The line between them has become blurred because the art is the same. Entertainment is the same. Only the medium of viewing it has changed a bit because now you can watch everything on your mobile phone. If you create good content then definitely the audience will come to the theatres. Content is king. There is a need to focus on that.
- It is considered difficult to achieve stardom in today's era...
Stars are stars, but if you don't focus on your art and don't play different kinds of characters, you can never become an actor. If you experiment with different things, do something new, then I think that the potential of an actor is very high.
Life is better than stars.
- Which negative character has been the most difficult for you?
The most difficult was 'Om Shanti Om' because at that time I was playing such a role for the first time. I was very nervous. At that time I used to wonder how I would do it, but when I started doing it, I understood that this is a way to show new emotions. After that I did not feel nervous about playing any negative character. But yes, the most difficult character was in the film 'Daddy' because it was based on Arun Gawli. I had to look like him. The language had to be kept the same, so most of the hard work went into it.
- Your film 'Punjab 95' is not being released...
Let's see what happens now. I am sure the film will definitely come out in front of everyone. It is a good film. The issue with the censor board will be resolved.
