News Topical, Digital Desk : Surjyasikha Das, who has shown her acting skills in web series and films like Ananya Pandey starrer 'Call Me Bae', 'Dange' and 'The Last Hour', won everyone's heart with her small role in Maa Movie.
Surajsikha Das, who played the role of Nandini, the mother of an 11-year-old daughter in Kajol starrer Maa, has played the serious role so gracefully apart from glamour that the audience also became her fan. In an exclusive conversation with Dainik Jagran, Surajsikha Das told that initially she was hesitant to work in this film.
At the beginning of her career, Surajasikha Das was a little scared to play the role of a mother. She was afraid that she might get typecast. When we asked her how she got the movie Maa, the actress told that she got this movie through Casting Bay.
Surjasikha Das was nervous about becoming a mother
Surjasikha Das said, “I got a call from Casting Bay and I was there in Ramnagar where the auditions were happening. They explained the role to me. They told me that it was a mother's character. At first I was a little confused whether to do it or not because I had to play an older character, an 11-year-old daughter. Then it may happen that I keep getting mother's roles later. Then I thought that whatever God has given me, first do it with respect. Then we will see about the rest later.”
Vishal Furia was also confused about Surajsikha
Not just Surajsikha, but director Vishal Furia was also a little confused about casting her. The actress revealed that when she went to meet director Vishal Furia at Ajay Devgn's office, the director told her, "I am a little confused about how you will play the role of a mother because you are very young. I don't know if you will be able to bring that feeling or not."
Surjasikha Das said that she had done a music video earlier, so I showed her that video which had some emotions etc. After this she was cast. Before Surjasikha, two other actors were also auditioned for this role.
Surajasikha Das wanted to become an actress since childhood
Surajsikha said, “I wanted to become an actress since childhood. It was my childhood dream. At that time, I was not able to try it because I was not allowed at home. Everyone thought that I should just become a doctor or an engineer. So I thought that I should first complete my studies so that I can become independent and then try. When I try and then something goes wrong, if things don't work out, at least I will be able to take care of myself and no one will have a problem. If I did it in childhood and something wrong happened, my parents would get worried because we don't have anyone around us, we don't know anyone, so first I thought that I should study and become independent.”
Sisters were against acting
Surajsikha has done MBA in Finance from Bangalore. Before acting, she worked in a corporate job to save some money. Surajsikha told that initially her sisters were against her acting choice. She said, “At first my sisters were not okay with it. They were scared because the industry was not so popular then and there were no acquaintances. So they were telling me to do something else but not act. We are from a middle class family, if something happens tomorrow then who will help us.”
Surja further said, "Being my sister, they were worried for me. But my mother was with me. She knew that this was my childhood dream." She said that her mother stood by her like a rock and was sure that she would make a name for herself. Well, now her sisters also agreed. They said that now they want to see her in glamorous roles." SurjaSikha Das told that after Maa, she has not got any work yet, but she is being appreciated a lot by directors and producers.
I did not get any movie after Maa
Talking about her struggle, Surjasikha Das said that she faced a lot of struggle in life. To prove herself, she did not talk to her sisters for a long time. There was no financial stability because initially she did not get that much money. There are struggles even today.
I will not say that if I get my mother back, it will be useful for me at work. If it happens, it will be a good thing and I wish it would happen. Maybe more people have seen my craft now, what kind of work I can do, in that case I have gone one step ahead, the rest of the hard work and struggle will continue.
Sooraj Sikha's bond with Kajol
Surajasikha Das called Kajol her favorite actress. She told that when she met Kajol, both of them used to hug each other. She used to make fun of her unique name. She was very quick about her work. Well, after Maa, Surajasikha Das is seen in Gutur Gu Season 3. Apart from this, she will be seen in a Maldives film.
