New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday asked BJP MPs from Maharashtra to step up public outreach and counter the opposition's propaganda against the government. The PM met members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra.

According to sources, PM Modi asked BJP MPs to take the schemes announced in the Union Budget to the public and thwart the opposition's efforts to spread propaganda about the government. A BJP MP who attended the meeting said that the PM also asked us to stop the opposition's propaganda against the government and reach out to every voter at the booth level. Union Minister Piyush Goyal was also present in the meeting.

BJP contested 28 seats in Maharashtra in the recent Lok Sabha elections. Out of these, it was able to win nine seats. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP won 23 seats.

BJP's ally Shiv Sena, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, won seven of the 15 seats it contested, while the Ajit Pawar-led NCP fielded candidates in four. Assembly elections in Maharashtra are due in September-October.
