News Topical, Digital Desk : The nomination list for the 98th Academy Awards was revealed on January 22, 2026. While Dharma Productions' "Homebound" missed out on a spot in the Best Feature Film category, the American horror film "Sinners" made history by being nominated in 16 different categories.

There are several films that audiences expected to make it to the Oscars, but they failed to secure a spot in the 2026 nominations. See the list of films that received nominations and which were eliminated:

Sinners

Sinners is a 2025 supernatural horror thriller film directed by Ryan Coogler. Michelle B. Jordan plays a double role in the film. This story of twin brothers was so well-received that it made its mark in the Oscar nominations. Along with Best Picture, it received 16 nominations in various categories including Actor, Director, Supporting Actress-Actor and Best Original Screenplay. People were most surprised when actor Delroy Lindo, who played the role of Blue musician Delta Slim, was nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category. This is the 73-year-old actor's first Oscar nomination.

Wicked For Good

The second installment of Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and Wale's American musical fantasy film "Wicked for Good" was not nominated for this year's Oscars. The fantasy drama's absence from the 2026 Oscar nominations list has come as a surprise. The first installment received 10 nominations when it was released in 2024.

Song Sung Blue

The 2025 American biographical musical drama film "Song-Song Blue" has also secured an Oscar nomination. The film received one nomination. This is American actress Kate Hudson's second Oscar nomination in her 25-year career. She has been nominated in the Best Actress category. She previously received a nomination for "Almost Famous." The film's story is based on a Neil Diamond tribute band.

Hamnet

Paul Mescal's film Hamnet has received a total of eight nominations at the 98th Academy Awards. In addition to Best Picture, director Chloé Zhao and actress Jessie Buckley are also nominated. The film received nominations in several categories, including casting, original score, production design, and cinematography. Mescal plays Shakespeare in the film. The film received critical acclaim, but despite his impressive performance and accolades, he missed out on an Oscar nomination, leaving his fans deeply disappointed. 

Sentimental Value

Actress Elle Fanning has received her first Oscar nomination for her film "Sentimental Value." The film also made its way to the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. Joachim Trier's film received nine Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Actress in a Leading Role, and Best Supporting Actress. 

One Battle After Another

One Battle After Another has successfully secured a spot in the Oscar nominations for 2026. The film has received 13 Oscar nominations. However, fans are upset that Chase Infinity hasn't received a single nomination despite his impressive performance. 

When will the Oscars 2026 be held?

The 98th Academy Awards will be held on March 16, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Conan O'Brien will host the show. Indian fans can watch it live on Jio Hotstar.
