New Delhi: Rain has caused bad conditions in different states of North India. Rain has been pouring continuously in many districts of UP since Wednesday. The worst situation is in Bihar. A total of 274 schools have been closed here due to floods. 20 schools of different panchayats are either completely surrounded by water or water has entered them. Examinations were also scheduled to start in schools from Wednesday. The examinations have been postponed keeping in view the safety of teachers and students.

Yellow alert issued in hilly states

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert in many areas of the hilly state. Snowfall continues on the high peaks of the Himalayas in Uttarakhand and rain continues in the lower regions. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for rain and storm on September 19 in Kangra, Chamba, Kullu and Mandi districts of Himachal. Meanwhile, 10 people died in incidents of collapse of kutcha houses and trees during the intermittent rain in Kanpur and surrounding districts of Uttar Pradesh from Tuesday evening to Wednesday morning.

Rivers are in spate in Bihar

Rivers are in spate due to rain in many districts of Bihar. Flood water has spread in the low lying areas of Buxar, Bhojpur, Begusarai and Saran districts. Looking at the situation, the district administration has closed 149 schools in Ara (Bhojpur) and 125 schools in Begusarai. On Wednesday, six lakh cusecs of water was released from Indrapuri Barrage of Rohtas district into the Son river. Water has also entered many houses.

The water level of river Ganga is increasing rapidly

An electrician was swept away by the strong current of the Kiul river while working in Jamui district. The administration has put the officials on alert mode after 1 lakh 73 thousand 902 cusecs of water was released from Bhim Dam located on Koel river in Mohammadganj of Palamu district of Jharkhand. Water has also been released from Rihand and Bansagar due to which the water may rise for three to four days. The Falgu river has once again overflown in Jehanabad district. Ganga, Budhi Gandak and Bagmati are flowing above the danger mark in Khagaria. The water level of Ganga river has also started increasing rapidly in Mohanpur of Samastipur district.

Yellow alert in Shimla

The weather department has issued a yellow alert for rain and storm in Kangra, Chamba, Kullu and Mandi districts on September 19. Heavy rain occurred in Shimla and other places on Tuesday night. Due to continuous rain in Shimla, the temperature has dropped. On Wednesday, Shimla received 0.5 mm rain and Kalpa received 18.0 mm rain.

Snowfall on high peaks in Uttarakhand

Snowfall continues on the high peaks of the Himalayas and rainfall in the lower regions in Uttarakhand. According to the Director of Meteorological Centre, Bikram Singh, rainfall may slow down in Uttarakhand in the next few days. Snowfall may continue on the high peaks of the Himalayas. Another round of rainfall may begin in the state after September 25.

Many districts of Bengal are submerged in water

Many parts of Bengal's Hooghly and West Medinipur districts are submerged. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday that the flood-like situation in some parts of the state is 'man-made' due to uncontrolled release of water from Maithon and Panchet dams by the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC). This action of releasing water is pre-planned and has been done to put Bengal in trouble.
