New Delhi: After the intelligence report and alert about terrorists trying to disrupt the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, the Central Election Commission has also come into alert mode. It has started working with full intensity to foil any such attempt. During this time, while the commission is keeping a 24-hour watch on the security situation in the state, it has also sent a team of its top officials to visit the state. These days, it is busy checking the election preparations and security arrangements in all the districts.
Voting will be held on September 18
Voting for the first phase of 24 assembly seats in the state is to be held on September 18. Along with this, the commission has also tightened the security arrangements in the state. Special police supervisors have also been deployed to keep an eye on the security arrangements in each assembly constituency.
Intelligence alert regarding elections
According to sources, the commission has started this process of checking security arrangements after receiving continuous intelligence alerts about disrupting the elections. During this, the security of the candidates of each assembly along with the officials of all political parties is being checked. Apart from this, a standard procedure has been set in each district regarding security arrangements. Under this, the candidates or top officials of political parties will have to inform the local administration before going to any area for campaigning.
Voting in three phases
It is worth noting that the Election Commission has announced to conduct elections in three phases for the 90 seats of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. In the first phase, voting will be held on September 18 for 24 seats, while in the second phase voting will be held on September 25 for 26 seats and in the third phase voting will be held on October 1 for 40 seats. While its results will now come on October 8.
