New Delhi: India is talking to the ousted Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina about her future but it cannot be disclosed due to strategic reasons. India is also deeply assessing the aspects related to the role of China-Pakistan and America behind the serious violent movement going on in Bangladesh.
In view of this, India has kept its army and central security forces on high alert on the border while keeping a strategic eye on the latest situation in Bangladesh. Sheikh Hasina, who arrived in India after the coup, is accompanied not only by her sister Rehana but also by many close relatives.
In the all-party meeting convened on Tuesday on the developments in Bangladesh, the government took the opposition leaders into confidence by making them aware of these facts on their concerns and questions. A day after Sheikh Hasina's arrival in India amid the chaotic situation spread by the coup in Bangladesh, the central government called an all-party meeting to build a national consensus on this issue in which External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar made the opposition leaders aware of the latest situation.
'India is constantly monitoring the situation'
According to sources, the foreign minister discussed the possible impact of the developments in Bangladesh on India and India's strategy in case of external interference there. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, while asking a question related to the strategic aspects of the violent developments in Bangladesh, said whether the government had any idea of such turmoil and whether there is any information about the role of forces outside Dhaka, especially China-Pakistan, behind this. According to the source, Jaishankar said that India is constantly monitoring the situation and as far as external forces are concerned, there is information about the changed DP in the mobile of a Pakistani diplomat, which shows his inclination to support the rebellion, which we are investigating.
What is the strategy of the Indian government to stop this?
Expressing concern over attacks on temples and minority Hindus in Bangladesh, the Leader of Opposition asked what is the strategy of the Indian government to stop this? The Foreign Minister said that minorities are being attacked and their properties are being destroyed and the government will take appropriate steps to ensure their safety. Contact is maintained with the Bangladesh Army Chief and his authorities. Questions were also raised about the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh staying in India and political asylum and according to sources, Rahul Gandhi asked what the government has discussed with Sheikh Hasina about her future? Jaishankar said on this that there has been a discussion with Hasina about her future plans but it cannot be disclosed.
Hasina took refuge in India with some close relatives
When asked about Hasina's close relatives who accompanied her to Hindon Air Force Base, the Foreign Minister said that some close relatives have accompanied her but it would not be appropriate to disclose their number. There were also questions about the discussions of political asylum of the former Bangladesh PM in Britain, Finland and Dubai, on which the Foreign Minister said that Hasina is in talks with these countries.
Hasina can stay in India for a few more days
Sources said that according to the indications given to the opposition leaders, there are still some hurdles in political asylum in Britain, which includes the issue of providing legal protection to Hasina. Britain has not yet agreed to guarantee legal protection in view of the possibility of investigation against her in Bangladesh under the supervision of international forums. In such a situation, it may take some time to decide on political asylum and Hasina may stay in India for a few more days. Sources said that according to the current discussions, there are more chances of Sheikh Hasina getting political asylum in Dubai for now.
Opposition leaders assured full support to the government
In the all-party meeting, the opposition leaders assured full support to the government on the Bangladesh issue irrespective of political lines and said that we are all together in matters of national interest. Trinamool Congress leader Sudip Bandhopadhyay said that his party is with every decision of the Centre but he urged that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee should be taken into confidence by informing her about the Bangladesh related issues. The Foreign Minister openly acknowledged the support received from political parties on the Bangladesh developments in the all-party meeting, first in a post on X and then in a statement in Parliament, and said that he appreciates the unanimous support and understanding received.
