Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday morning raided the house of former principal of Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College, Sandip Ghosh. The ED action is still on. The central agency has registered a PMLA case in connection with financial irregularities.
Let us tell you that Sandeep Ghosh is currently in the custody of CBI. He has been arrested along with three other associates in the case of financial irregularities in the medical college. ED has also raided other places.
The lock of the house opened after three hours
The ED team had to wait for three hours outside Sandeep Ghosh's house. After this the lock was opened and then the ED officials could enter inside. Let us tell you that before this the CBI team also had to wait outside Ghosh's house for 75 minutes.
ED action in these places
ED raided Ghosh's residence in Beleghata, Kolkata. Apart from this, the team also reached the residence of two other people in Howrah. On August 9, the body of a female trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College. The case was first investigated by the Kolkata Police. Later, on the orders of the High Court, the CBI is investigating. Meanwhile, the then principal of the medical college, Sandeep Ghosh, was accused of financial irregularities.
CBI took action on the order of the High Court
On 16 August, Kolkata Police formed an SIT for investigation. However, the very next day, the High Court handed over the case to the CBI. On the 26th day of the murder of the woman doctor, the former principal Sandip Ghosh and his three associates were arrested by the CBI in the case of financial misconduct. The CBI had registered the case on 24 August.
What charges were leveled against Sandeep Ghosh?
Former Deputy Superintendent of RG Kar Hospital, Dr. Akhtar Ali had filed a petition in the High Court accusing the former principal of financial misconduct. He had appealed to get the case investigated by the ED. Apart from Sandeep Ghosh, the CBI has arrested security guards Afsar Ali, Biplab Singh and Suman Hazra in this case. Sandeep Ghosh is accused of favoritism in tenders, illegal sale of medical organic waste and passing medical students by taking money.
