
News Topical, Digital Desk : Mumbai Police has imposed fines of more than one crore rupees on more than 10 thousand vehicles for violating traffic rules in the metropolis during the Dahi Handi festival.
The festival, organised on the occasion of Janmashtami, was celebrated on Saturday in which a large number of groups of young men and women formed human pyramids and broke the dahi handi (curd pot) suspended in the air by ropes.
Penalty imposed for violation of rules
During the festival, many people arrived in groups on two-wheelers and other vehicles. Mumbai Traffic Police, who were deployed on the roads along with the local police to ensure smooth movement of vehicles, imposed fines against those who violated the rules during the festival.
According to an official, a total of 10,051 e-challans were issued with a fine of Rs 1,13,57,250. These challans were issued for travelling without helmet, driving in the wrong lane, travelling with three people on a two-wheeler and driving at high speed.
E-challan will be issued
CCTV footage is being analysed in various areas. More e-challans will be issued if violations are found.
