Market This Week: Market fell but these stocks made profits, read the full list

News Topical, Digital Desk : The Indian stock market declined for the second consecutive week. In volatile trading, the major indexes fell nearly 1%, while the broader index fell between 0.6% and 1.5%. Mid-cap and small-cap indexes snapped a two-week rally, while the large-cap index continued its decline for the second week. This decline was driven by continued selling by foreign investors (FIIs) amid mixed quarterly results from Indian companies.

How was the market for the week?

During the week, Sensex closed at 83,216.28, down 722.43 points (0.86%), while Nifty50 index closed at 25,492.30, down 229.8 points (0.89%). Sectoral indices mostly declined – Nifty Media fell 3.2%, Defence 2%, Metal 1.7%, and IT 1.6%. However, Nifty PSU Bank Index remained in the green, gaining 2%. During the week, FIIs sold shares worth ₹1,632.66 crore, while DIIs bought shares worth ₹16,677.94 crore. During this period, 38 Nifty stocks gave negative returns. Hindalco, Grasim and Power Grid were the biggest losers, while Shriram Finance, M&M, Asian Paints and HDFC Life were among the major gainers. Among midcap stocks, Hitachi, L&T Finance, Indus Towers, Vodafone Idea and BSE were the top gainers, while Amber, Blue Star, NCC and Delhivery were the biggest losers.

Which stocks saw the biggest gains and where did they lose? The number of smallcap stocks that registered losses this week was more than the stocks that made gains. The number of stocks that registered gains of more than 10 percent during the week was around 20. Whereas the number of stocks that lost more than 10 percent was more than 35. The biggest gain was seen in Thangamayil Jewellery. The stock rose by more than 56 percent. LG Balakrishnan and brothers gained about 29 percent. Interarch Building Solutions gained more than 20 percent. CCL Products rose by more than 19 percent. Whereas BLS E-Services and ASM Technologies gained more than 18 percent. Stocks registering double-digit growth include Dredging Corporation, Cupid, City Union Bank, DCB Bank, and Banco Products.
