News Topical, Digital Desk : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday sent flowers and sweets to Tarique Rahman after his party's landslide victory in Bangladesh's 13th national parliamentary election.

Atiqur Rahman Ruman, a member of the party's media cell, received flowers and sweets at the BNP chairperson's political office (Gulshan). This gesture by Mamata Banerjee not only congratulates her on her electoral victory but also reflects an effort to strengthen the cultural and geographical proximity between the two countries.

Mamata Banerjee posted on X

He wrote, "My heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all my brothers and sisters in Bangladesh. Advance Ramadan Mubarak to all of them. My congratulations to my brother Tariq, his party, and all parties for this great victory. May you all remain well and happy." In the same message, he expressed hope that bilateral relations would remain strong.

Voting for the 13th parliamentary election and referendum ended on Thursday. On Friday, the Bangladesh Election Commission announced official results for 297 of the 300 seats. Of the 297 declared seats, the BNP and its allies won 212. The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami-led electoral alliance won 77 seats, the Islami Andolan Bangladesh won one seat, and independent candidates won seven. Tarique Rahman will be sworn in on February 17.
