News Topical, Digital Desk : US President Donald Trump has said that talking to India and Pakistan and rescuing them from crisis is a great success for me, for which I will never be given due credit. He said that there was a lot of hatred between the two countries and the tension had increased to such an extent that its next stage could possibly be a 'nuclear' war.
Both countries are nuclear powers
In an interview to 'Fox News', Trump said, “This is a huge success for me. Both these countries are nuclear powers and they were angry.” Ahead of Trump's Middle East visit, when asked about "some foreign policy successes", he acknowledged that he had directly talked to the leaders of India and Pakistan and that there was mediation from the US side to control tensions.
Trump called India and Pakistan
He said that when tensions were rising, missiles were being used and the confrontation was heading towards a "tit for tat", he intervened and prevented the situation from worsening. When asked in the interview if he called India and Pakistan, Trump replied, "Yes, I did."
Trump said- there could have been a nuclear war between India and Pakistan
When asked if he considered it a success, he replied in the affirmative. Trump said, "The tension between the two countries had increased to such an extent that its next step could possibly be a 'nuclear' war... did you see in which direction this tension was going?
It was a kind of retaliation - tit for tat. It was getting more intense... more... I mean, more missiles... everybody was 'more strong'. The tension had reached the point where you know what was going to happen next? The 'N' word. You know what the N word is, right?"
Trump says nuclear weapons are the worst thing that could happen
When the interviewer asked Trump if he knew the 'N' word, he replied "nuclear"! Trump said, "It's the N word. It's a very bad word, isn't it?"
In many ways, the N word used in a nuclear sense is the worst thing that can happen. And, I think they (India-Pak) were very close to it. The hatred was too much. Then I said, 'We are going to talk about trade. We are going to do a lot of trade. I am using trade to settle scores and make peace.'
‘India ready to reduce 100 percent tariff on American goods’
Trump has once again said that India is ready to reduce 100 percent tariff on American goods. He also claimed that a trade agreement will be reached between New Delhi and Washington soon. He also commented on India's high tariff policy and said that India is one of the countries imposing the highest tariffs in the world.
However, he also said that India is now ready to reduce its tariffs on the US and a trade deal between the two countries could be reached soon.
India ready to trade with America at zero tariff
It is worth noting that Trump had said two days ago that India is ready to trade with America at zero tariff. On this, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar had said that the trade agreement should be mutually beneficial.
