News Topical, Digital Desk : The changing weather patterns in northern India have raised concerns for farmers, as sudden hailstorms and unseasonal rains have caused significant crop damage in several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Delhi. The weather has taken a turn in early April due to the influence of an active western disturbance.
It will rain in these states today
Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rain and hail are expected in many areas of North India today. Many areas of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR, and western Uttar Pradesh have been overcast since this morning. There is a strong possibility of heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and hail in some areas during the afternoon and evening.
Crop ruined due to hailstorm
There are reports of heavy hailstorm in Haryana districts like Bhiwani, Hisar, Rohtak and Sonipat, due to which more than 50 percent damage is feared to the standing mustard, wheat and other Rabi crops.
Unseasonal rains and hailstorms have also caused extensive damage to potato and wheat crops in Mathura, Aligarh and Hathras districts of Uttar Pradesh, following which the administration has directed for special Girdawari (crop loss assessment) to assess the losses.
Clouds started gathering in Delhi-NCR
In Delhi-NCR, thunderstorms, strong winds, and intermittent rain disrupted normal life, causing temperatures to drop by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius. Rain is expected again today.
A blanket of snow covered Rajasthan
Rain and hail fell in most districts of Rajasthan on Friday. Rain and hail are expected again today. Dust storms also swept through several districts. The rain, hail, and winds have caused temperatures to drop. The rain and hail have caused significant damage to crops standing in the fields.
Heavy rain and hailstorms have struck several districts, including Jaipur, Ajmer, Didwana-Kuchaman, Nagaur, Jalore, Dausa, Bikaner, Churu, Sikar, and Beawar. This has damaged standing wheat and mustard crops.
Winds will blow at a speed of 40-60 kmph in the plains.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, this weather disturbance may continue till April 5, in which an alert has been issued for strong winds at the speed of 40-60 kmph and lightning in the plains of northwest India.
Meteorologists believe that due to climate change, the impact of western disturbance is now increasing even in the month of April, which is a big challenge for the agricultural sector.
Farmers have been advised
Farmers have been advised to store harvested crops in safe places and postpone irrigation and pesticide spraying for the time being. The weather is expected to clear and temperatures will rise again in the coming week, after April 6th, providing relief from the unseasonal cold.
