News Topical, Digital Desk : The Election Commission of India has reprimanded the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal for not releasing the increased honorarium due to booth level officers (BLOs). The Election Commission said the delay was "very strange" and the amount should be released immediately.

The Election Commission stated this during a meeting with a Trinamool delegation on November 28. The Election Commission issued a notification increasing the honorarium of BLOs in all states. This honorarium has not yet been released by the state governments.

Amount not released by the State Government

The Election Commission had told the Trinamool delegation that it was strange to see that the increased honorarium of Rs 12,000 per year for BLOs and the additional amount of Rs 6,000 to BLOs for SIRs had not yet been released by the state government.

The Election Commission insisted that this payment be made without any further delay. The Trinamool Congress delegation was informed by the Election Commission that the increased honorarium of ₹12,000 annually for BLOs and an additional ₹6,000 for SIRs had been approved by the Election Commission.

Election Commission's instructions

A notification had already been issued notifying the increased remuneration for all BLOs across the country. The Commission has clearly directed that the increased honorarium for BLOs and the additional amount approved for SIRs should be paid immediately without any further delay.
