News Topical, Digital Desk : China has advised its citizens against traveling to Japan, saying that Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's recent comments on Taiwan pose a security risk to Chinese citizens, Chinese officials said.

China's Foreign Ministry issued an advisory late Friday, claiming that Takaichi's comments had damaged the atmosphere of mutual exchanges. It also urged citizens in Japan to remain vigilant about local security situations.

Tension increased in both countries

The move has escalated tensions between the two neighboring countries. The advice came a day after China lodged a strong protest with Tokyo over Takaichi's comments on Taiwan.

According to the Global Times report, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong summoned Japanese Ambassador Kenji Kanasugi and accused the Prime Minister of making false and provocative remarks.

Takaichi commented earlier this month that a military emergency in the Taiwan Strait could pose an existential threat to Japan.

Beijing says the remarks hint at Japan's potential involvement in the Taiwan conflict. Sun said the remarks were of a very serious nature, violating the one-China principle and amounting to interference in China's internal affairs.
