New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Tuesday that false propaganda is being spread about GST that more tax is being taken from people under it. We want to ask such people to name even one item on which more tax is being taken than before GST.
The entire country is benefiting from the GST system. People are shamelessly spreading misinformation about GST.
Finance Minister is not in favor of reducing GST
Sitharaman said that when the finance ministers of the states attend the council meeting, they are not in favour of reducing GST on goods. Because as a finance minister, revenue matters to them. However, some ministers come out of the meeting and say something else.
He said that imagine if GST collection starts decreasing then people will put the Finance Minister in the dock. He said that there will be no decision on change in GST rates in the upcoming GST Council meeting to be held on 9th September.
Council meeting after 9 September
Now the council committee will check how much work has been done in this direction and then the group of ministers formed to rationalize the rates will take a decision. The Finance Minister said that rationalization of rates can be discussed in the council meeting to be held after 9 September.
He said that there are 12 thousand products under the ambit of GST and it is not easy to review all of them. In the upcoming meeting, the reduction or abolition of 18 percent GST on health and life insurance can be considered.
