How did the incident happen?
The plane was traveling along the Platte River and crashed into the water south of Fremont at 8:15 p.m., Sgt. Bree Frank of the Dodge County Sheriff's Office said during a news conference.
Frank confirmed that the bodies of three people had been recovered. Authorities did not immediately release the identities of the deceased.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board will monitor the investigation near Fremont, about 59.5 miles west of Omaha, the sheriff's office said.
