News Topical, Digital Desk : FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino announced Wednesday that he will resign from his post in January, less than 10 months after starting the job. Bongino, 51, did not give a reason for his move in a post on Instagram announcing his resignation. But President Donald Trump said he thinks Bongino wants to return to his popular podcast. "Dan did a great job. I think he wants to return to his show," Trump said.
Who is Dan Bongino?
Bongino had a law enforcement background before joining the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). He served as a New York police officer and a Secret Service agent. However, his appointment was unusual because the number two position in the FBI is traditionally held by a career employee.
His tenure at the FBI began in March and has been marked by reports of tension with Attorney General Pam Bondi. In his post, Bongino thanked Trump, Bondi, and FBI Director Kash Patel "for the opportunity to serve with purpose."
What was claimed in the podcast about Trump?
Bongino's eponymous podcast has one of the largest listeners in the country and often spreads conspiracy theories, including the claim that the 2020 presidential election was "stolen" from Trump.
