News Topical, Digital Desk : US Navy SEAL commandos shot and killed several North Korean civilians during a failed intelligence mission in North Korea in 2019. During the intelligence mission, the commandos had gone to install a listening device.
The New York Times on Friday cited sources as saying that President Donald Trump approved the operation during his first term when he was in talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
The civilians appeared to have been diving for shellfish when they inadvertently spotted a squad of SEALs commandos approaching the shore at night, the Times reported.
The report said US commandos returned fire, killing everyone on board the small fishing vessel, though the number of casualties was not given. Since Trump's last summit with Kim in 2019, talks have collapsed and North Korea has been advancing its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs.
