News Topical, Digital Desk : Ampox is no longer an international health emergency. The World Health Organization announced this on Friday. WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that this decision has been taken in view of the continuous decline in cases.
Ampox is a viral infection that spreads through contact with an infected person. Its symptoms are usually flu-like and include pus-filled sores. Tedros Adhanom said that cases have declined significantly in other affected countries, including Congo, Burundi, Sierra Leone and Uganda.
The announcement was made in August last year
The World Health Organisation first declared a health emergency in August last year, when an outbreak of a new form of ampox spread from the badly-hit Democratic Republic of Congo to neighbouring countries.
The Director-General of the World Health Organization said that this decision is based on the advice of the World Health Organization's Emergency Committee, which meets every three months to evaluate the outbreak. Let us tell you that a health emergency is the highest alert of the World Health Organization.
