News Topical, Digital Desk : At the beginning of the film Inspector Jhande, released on the digital platform Netflix, it is told in a voice over that this film is inspired by a real incident. Mumbai Police Inspector Madhukar B Jhande, who had caught the notorious criminal Charles Sobhraj twice during his tenure, first in Mumbai in the year 1971 and second time in Goa in the year 1986.

What is the story of Inspector Jhande?

The story begins in the year 1986, where Inspector Jhende (Manoj Bajpayee) working in Mumbai Police comes to know that Interpol's most wanted criminal Karl Bhojraj (Jim Sarbh) has escaped from Delhi's Tihar Jail. Jhende had caught him for the first time in the year 1971. Therefore, once again he is given the responsibility, because Karl escapes from Delhi and comes to Mumbai. From there begins the game of cat and mouse and snake and mongoose.

In these 15 years, Karl has become even more dangerous. He is accused of 32 murders and escaping from jails in four countries by dodging the police. To catch Karl, Jhande has to go to Goa with a limited budget and a small team from Mumbai.

Charles Sobhraj appears as a petty thief in the film

This may be the first film of Hindi and Marathi film actor Chinmay D Mandlekar as a director, but it is not felt anywhere because he keeps the frames technically tied. However, the story of the film written by him is very slow and long. By the time the comedy punches are understood, the scene has moved on. The Mumbai of 1986 is seen only in the scene of carrying milk in a bottle and the landline. Charles Sobhraj was a very dangerous criminal, but in the film he is seen as a petty thief till the end. Both the characters of Jhande and Carl needed to be strengthened by Chinmay, even though he has kept the genre of the film as comedy.

When it was told in the beginning of the film that the film is inspired by a real incident and Madhukar Jhende's name is also real, then the justification of making the infamous Charles Sobhraj, known as the bikini killer, into swimsuit killer Carl Bhojraj does not make sense. The film starts like a fight between a cat and mouse and a snake and a mongoose, which makes it worth watching. The scenes searching for Carl may not be very exciting, but the scene of catching Carl in Goa, in which Jhende catches him dancing on the dance floor, is fun. Vishal Sinha's cinematography makes the film stylish. The background score of the film helps in bringing pace to the slow scenes. In the end, it feels good to see the original Madhukar Jhende.

The burden of the entire film is on Manoj Bajpayee's shoulders

Actor Manoj Bajpayee handles the weak screenplay in every frame with his acting experience. He appears in the zone of The Family Man web series. Jim Sarbh does not impress in the role of Carl, his French accent is also not impressive. Sachin Khedekar works within the limits of the script in the role of DGP Purandare. Girija Oak has not got much screen space, but she looks good in whatever she has. Bhalchandra Kadam impresses in the role of Jhande's partner Patil.
