News Topical, Digital Desk : President Donald Trump on Friday signed an executive order renaming the US Defense Department as the War Department, a move Trump had announced long ago.

Trump believes that the current Defense Department's name is too defensive and that the name War Department indicates more readiness. At the same time, Trump believes that rebranding the US Defense Department will present a more powerful image around the world.

He was accompanied by US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and Joint Chief of Staff Dan Kane. Before signing the order, US President Trump told the media that he had been discussing this idea with Pete Hegseth and Dan Kane for some time.

Trump said we won World War I, World War II, everything before that and in between, and then we decided to wake up and change the name to the 'Department of Defense,' so we're going to the 'Department of War.' He said the name is "more appropriate" given the current global scenario.
