In fact, at least one person has died in this Gen-G demonstration. Dozens of police officers were injured. President José Jeri had just assumed power in Peru a few days earlier.

Why did the protesters take to the streets?

According to reports, Gen Z protested against the government on Wednesday. Transport workers and members of civil society groups also participated in the demonstration. This protest was against corruption and rising crime. Several demonstrations have taken place before. However, Wednesday night's demonstration was the largest and most widespread.

Thousands of protesters reportedly gathered across the country. Police attempted to stop them, leading to clashes. Police fired tear gas shells, while protesters began setting off firecrackers.

Jerry government is surrounded by controversies

It's worth noting that Peru's new Jerry government is currently embroiled in controversy. Current President José Jerry has previously served as President of the Peruvian Congress. Jerry is also under investigation following allegations of rape by a woman. However, he denied these allegations in August.

Protesters called President Jerry a rapist.

Protesters have criticized him and his government. During the demonstration, women called Jerry a rapist. Stones were also thrown at police. Police later used tear gas and mild force against the protesters.

Peruvians say they are fed up with decades of corruption and government failure. Negativity is growing among young people and they are demanding change. Public anger is growing over government policies and violence.
