News Topical, Digital Desk : The International Crimes Tribunal will announce its verdict date on Thursday, November 13th, in the case filed against former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Sheikh Hasina faces serious charges including crimes against humanity and murder. The entire case relates to the student protests that took place in Bangladesh in July 2024.

Tensions have risen in Bangladesh ahead of the announcement of the verdict date. Security across the country has been put on high alert. Military, police, and other security personnel have been deployed at key locations across the country to prevent any protests or unrest.

Awami League announced lockdown

Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's party, the Awami League, has announced a dawn-to-dusk nationwide strike on Thursday. The Awami League has appealed to the people of the country to participate. It should be noted that the interim government of Bangladesh, led by Mohammad Yunus, has imposed several restrictions on the Awami League. This is why party leaders are attempting to reach out to the people of the country on social media and running online campaigns.

Violence and arrests in Dhaka

Over the past two days, incidents of vehicle fires and bomb blasts have been reported in several parts of Bangladesh, including Dhaka. Awami League supporters held impromptu rallies at various locations. Police subsequently launched a crackdown and arrested Awami League activists. 

1400 people lost their lives

In July 2024, a student-led uprising toppled Sheikh Hasina's government. On August 5, 2024, the former prime minister fled to India. An interim government led by Muhammad Yunus was subsequently formed. According to a United Nations report, approximately 1,400 people may have been killed during the July protests.
