Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju has said many things about the Waqf Board Bill on the occasion of Eid. Rijiju said, 'It is not good for the country to provoke people by carrying stones on the streets. Some people are saying that the land and property of Muslims will be snatched away. I do not understand why they are saying this? This country runs on the constitution and law. How can anyone's land be snatched away? It is not right to deceive people by telling lies.'
When will you bring the Waqf Bill? We will inform you
Along with this, he said, 'Some people are misleading. I would say don't lie. Don't mislead the society by lying. I will tell you when we will bring the Waqf Bill.'
One should not lie on the day of Eid
The minority minister said, 'It is being said using loudspeakers at many places. Land of Muslims is being snatched. Identify those who are saying this. No one needs to tell such black and white lies. Today is Eid. One should not tell lies. Whoever lies on this day, it means that he is a fake person.'
There was not so much discussion on any bill
The Union Minister said, 'Till date, such a wide discussion has not taken place on any bill in the history of India. More than 97 lakh memoranda have been received on a bill. Discussions had to be held till late night. We are still ready to discuss. Under the rules, anyone has the freedom to speak as much as he can.'
What is the Waqf Board Bill?
The Waqf Board Bill, formally known as the 'Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024', is a law proposed by the Government of India to amend the Waqf Act, 1995. The bill seeks to bring changes in the functioning, structure and powers of the Waqf Boards to increase transparency in their functioning, ensure accountability and better management of Waqf properties. Waqf is an Islamic tradition. In this, a person donates his property for religious, educational or charitable purposes. The Waqf Board manages it.
