New Delhi: The NIA on Thursday arrested a key accused from the Imphal airport in a case related to an international conspiracy of militants and terror organisations to escalate violence in Manipur and spread terror in the northeastern state.

The NIA said that Thongminthang Haokip alias Thangboi Haokip alias Roger, a member of the Kuki National Front-Military Council, was arrested in a case registered by the NIA on its own initiative on July 19 last year.

What did the NIA say?

According to the NIA investigation, the conspiracy was hatched by Kuki and Zomi insurgents and they were supported by terrorist organizations based in the northeastern states and neighboring Myanmar. The aim of the conspiracy was to take advantage of the ethnic unrest prevailing in the region and wage war against the Indian government through violent attacks.

The accused was involved in attacks on security forces

The statement said that the accused was found to be involved in attacks on security forces at various places during militancy and violence. Roger was in contact with Myanmar's militant group Kuki National Front-Burma to supply necessary material to increase instability in Manipur and create terror in the minds of people.
