New Delhi: A plane crash occurred 56 years ago at Rohtang Pass in Himachal Pradesh. An AN-12 plane of the Indian Air Force crashed. Four soldiers were killed in this accident. The bodies of all these four soldiers have been recovered after 56 years.
Indian Army's joint team recovered the bodies
One of the longest running search operations of India has been successfully completed. Army officials informed that the bodies were recovered by a joint team of Dogra Scouts of the Indian Army and personnel of Tiranga Mountain Rescue.
Three bodies have been identified
On February 7, 1968, a turboprop transport aircraft carrying 102 army personnel disappeared while flying from Chandigarh to Leh. Officials said that three of the bodies recovered have been identified as Malkhan Singh, Sepoy Narayan Singh and Craftsman Thomas Charan.
The remains of the plane were found in the year 2018
In 2018, the remains of the plane and the body of a soldier were discovered at the Dhaka Glacier Base Camp, located at an altitude of 6,200 metres. The recovery was carried out by a team of mountaineers who were part of the clean-up operation at the Chandrabhaga-13 peak that began on July 1, 2018.
The debris and remains were identified over several days in mid-July that year. SP Choudhary said the Army expedition team is now in the process of bringing the remains back to the Losar base.
