Recently, she has sparked a discussion on social media by taking a dig at the new loan of 1 billion dollars received by Pakistan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
On May 10, 2025, while replying to a tweet by a Pakistani user, Gul wrote, "Congratulations, got another loan. With all due respect, we don't need that money, you do. For your information, India did not take any financial help from IMF after 1993. All loans were repaid by May 31, 2000." Gul also shared an official link of the Indian government with her reply, which confirms her statement.
Pakistani user's claim and Gul's reply
The Pakistani user had claimed that the IMF handed India a "shameful defeat" by approving a $1 billion loan because India tried to block its approval. Gul, whose father Lt Gen Panag was in the Indian Army, rejected the claim and emphasised India's economic independence. He clarified that India has not taken help from the IMF for decades, while Pakistan has been taking loans repeatedly.

The IMF approved this loan to Pakistan as part of a $7 billion program of which $2 billion has been disbursed so far. India had opposed the loan approval because Pakistan has a history of supporting terrorism. India had told the IMF that these funds could be used to promote 'cross-border terrorism'. The dispute deepened after Operation Sindoor, in which India attacked terrorist camps in PoK and Pakistan in response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack (26 people died). Pakistan then retaliated by launching Turkish-made drones.
