Fasting people should not do these things (Shardiya Navratri 2024 Rules)

  • During this time, wake up early and take a holy bath.
  • Devotees must avoid consuming alcohol, tobacco and non-vegetarian food during the nine-day fast.
  • Also the people of the house should also avoid evil things.
  • One should avoid cutting nails, cutting hair or shaving beard during Navratri fast .
  • The fasting person can consume buckwheat, water chestnut, sama, milk, sago, potatoes, juice and fruits as fruit diet.
  • Mustard oil and sesame oil should be avoided during the Navratri fast. If there is no alternative, peanut oil or ghee can be used.
  • Table salt should be avoided, whereas rock salt can be used.
  • The person observing the fast should avoid sleeping during the day.
  • Devotees should always wear sacred clothes while performing the festival rituals and should avoid wearing clothes made of leather. Also, wearing black clothes should be avoided.
  • Children, pregnant women and people suffering from serious diseases should avoid fasting.
  • During Navratri, nine forms of Goddess Durga should be worshipped (Shardiya Navratri Puja Niyam).
  • At this time one should not insult a woman even by mistake.
