It is forbidden to do auspicious and manglik work during Pitru Paksha (Pitru Paksha 2024). This time Pitru Paksha will start from 17th September. At the same time, it will end on 02 October. It is believed that by taking Ganga bath in Pitru Paksha (why we do Ganga snan in Pitru Paksha), the devotee gets freedom from all sins and gets the blessings of the gods and goddesses. Do you know how Mother Ganga descended on earth? If you don't know, then let's read the story related to it.

This is how Mother Ganga descended

According to the legend, King Bali had pleased Lord Vishnu, the savior of the world, due to which he took over the earth and started considering himself a god. He challenged Devraj Indra for a war. In this situation, Devraj Indra sought help from Shri Hari.

During this time, the Lord incarnated in the form of Vaman for the salvation of King Bali. Then King Bali was getting Ashwamedha Yagya done for peace and prosperity in the kingdom. Then Lord Vishnu reached King Bali in the form of Vaman.

King Bali asked for donation from a Brahmin

King Bali felt that the Lord had come to him. When King Bali asked the Brahmin for donation, Lord Vaman asked King Bali for three steps of land as donation. King Bali agreed to this. Then Lord Vishnu assumed his fierce form. His feet became so big that he measured the whole earth with one foot and the whole sky with the other.

King Bali got absorbed in the netherworld

In such a situation, Lord Vaman asked where he should place his third step. So King Bali said that 'I have nothing else to give' and bowed his head and asked him to place his third step on his body. Then Lord Vaman did the same and King Bali entered the netherworld.

After this, when Shri Hari raised his second foot towards the sky, Brahma washed his feet and filled the water in a water pot. Then, due to the power of the water, Maa Ganga was born in the water pot and after some time, Brahma gave her to the mountain king Himalaya as his daughter.
