
News Topical, Digital Desk : Math-Mandir Conservation Struggle Committee, District Fatehpur has submitted a memorandum to the District Magistrate seeking permission for the beautification, renovation and construction of the spire of the so-called Shankar Ji Siddhapeeth Thakur Ji Virajman Temple located in Abunagar locality of the city.
The committee says that the present condition of the temple is dilapidated and construction work is necessary before the special puja starting from 11 August. However, the place which is being described as a temple, according to historical documents, is the tomb of Nawab Abdus Samad Khan, a senior governor of the Mughal period, where he was buried.
According to historians
This fact is recorded in 'Fatehpur: A Gazetteer' (Author: H.R. Neville, 1906, pages 199–200). This gazetteer is part of the official district gazetteer of the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh.
Apart from this, this tomb is also mentioned in the 'Imperial Gazetteer of India' (Volume 12, page 83, 1881). According to historians, Abdus Samad Khan was a senior military officer and governor of the Mughal Empire, who served many Mughal emperors. His tomb is located in the Abunagar area, whose architectural style and historical significance make it an important heritage.
Concern among historians and civil society
In this background, concern is being raised among historians and civil society over the demand to change the form of this place by calling it a temple. Those who signed the memorandum include Prabhunath Tripathi, Ashok Tiwari Advocate, Deepak Balmiki, Dinesh Mishra, Vinay Mishra and many local people. 'Name of the temple, identity of Maqbara!'
Let us tell you that the Math-Mandir Sanrakshan Sangharsh Samiti had sought permission to beautify the Shankar Ji temple, but a big controversy has arisen over the history of the place. Let us tell you that the controversy over the tomb of Nawab Abdul Samad had increased so much that Hindu organizations had hoisted the saffron flag on the tomb.
